I Show Up for Life and Life Shows Up for Me
Over the last few days, I have been reflecting on something that feels both simple and profound.
For much of my life, I believed that if I worked hard enough, planned carefully enough, worried sufficiently, and prepared for every possibility, things would work out.
In many ways, that approach served me well.
It helped me study.
It helped me build a career.
It helped me navigate uncertainty.
It helped me care for others.
It helped me survive difficult periods of my life.
But recently, I have begun to notice something else.
I have started to see that life often responds when I show up.
Not perfectly.
Not immediately.
Not always in the way I expect.
But repeatedly.
Showing Up
Over the last week, I went camping with my daughters.
I built a website.
I published my writing.
I attended meetings.
I completed forms.
I replied to enquiries.
I cared for my children.
I went swimming.
I rested.
I reflected.
None of these things were dramatic.
I simply showed up for life.
And interestingly, life seemed to respond.
New client enquiries arrived.
Support appeared.
Opportunities moved forward.
Conversations opened doors.
Not because I forced them.
But because I stayed engaged with what was in front of me.
The Difference Between Participation and Control
I have spent many years trying to control outcomes.
I wanted certainty.
I wanted reassurance.
I wanted to know how everything would work out.
But life rarely provides certainty in advance.
Instead, it seems to offer invitations.
An invitation to take the next step.
An invitation to keep moving.
An invitation to trust.
Not blind trust.
Not passive trust.
Active trust.
The kind that says:
I will do my part.
And then:
I will allow life to do its part.
What Nature Taught Me
While camping, I spent hours watching nature.
Trees do not rush.
Flowers do not force themselves to bloom.
Birds do not spend their days forecasting next season.
Nature shows up fully to the conditions of the moment.
It responds.
It adapts.
It grows.
Perhaps this is one reason I felt so peaceful there.
Not because everything was easy.
Because nature constantly reminds us that growth is not control.
Growth is participation.
Trusting the Intelligence of Life
Recently, I have been listening to ideas about trust, consciousness, and allowing.
What resonates with me is not the idea that life will magically solve everything.
Rather, it is the growing recognition that life seems to meet us when we meet it.
I show up.
Life shows up.
I take a step.
Another opportunity appears.
I remain open.
Something unexpected unfolds.
Not always.
Not perfectly.
But often enough that I can no longer ignore it.
The Practice
I am still learning.
I still calculate.
I still worry.
I still try to predict outcomes.
Yet underneath all of that, a quieter understanding is beginning to emerge.
Perhaps I do not need to carry the entire future.
Perhaps I only need to meet the present.
Perhaps life is not asking me to control everything.
Perhaps it is asking me to participate.
To show up.
To be present.
To contribute.
To trust.
Not because uncertainty disappears.
But because I am learning that I can meet whatever comes.
And maybe that is all trust really is.
I show up for life.
And life shows up for me.
